flag tag

Day 10: July 8

Today I went out and tried to find all of the flags I put in the field yesterday. Surprisingly I found them all except one, took pictures and measured each snail. I still could not figure out the software to download to use to measure the area each snail has eaten out of the sea fan. I ended up emailing a librarian at New College to look up what another student my Professor mentioned to me that needed a similar software, used in her senior thesis. Hopefully I will get a positive reply tomorrow.

I spent the rest of the day being one with the island (read 100 pages of Gone Girl oops).

After dinner, a few students and I helped Professor with her research project. She studies hermit crabs extensively and numbers shells out here and puts them into the wild and somehow tracks/studies them year in and year out. It is monotonous/tedious work, but a bit soothing in its systematic nature.
